Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of diverse communities. Many who've never heard of it often mistake it for a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently mentioned, but her brief time in the city wasn't. Brugel grew to be an aspiring young lady within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be an expert dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." As I got bigger than my male counterparts, I gave up. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. In the case of Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's performed in more than 60 shows including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 which was viewed only at times.
